Website client interview questions: a focused 30-minute content session
Published · By Noor Intelligence
A website content interview should gather enough confirmed information to draft the agreed pages. Start with the audience and offer, move through service facts, and finish with a clear list of unanswered questions.
Before the call
Send the page list and ask the client to bring any existing service descriptions, public contact details and logo files. Confirm who can approve the content. Explain whether you will take notes or record; do not assume permission to record or use material with an AI provider. The preparation checklist helps identify gaps.
Minutes 0–5: audience and purpose
- Who is the website intended to help?
- What usually makes that person contact you?
- What should a visitor do next: enquire, book or request a quote?
Ask for a real description of the customer's situation. “Everyone who wants quality” is too broad to guide a page. A useful answer might describe a homeowner who needs a small repair and wants to know whether the business covers their town.
Minutes 5–15: services and practical details
- Which services are included on this website?
- What does each service include, and what does it exclude?
- Which locations do you cover?
- What happens after somebody enquires?
- Are any prices or response times approved for publication?
Distinguish typical practice from a promise. “We often reply the same day” should not become a guaranteed response time without agreement.
Minutes 15–23: story, evidence and assets
Ask why the business started, which experience is relevant and which qualifications can be supported. Identify photographs and logos, but keep availability separate from permission. Use the asset inventory to record what needs checking.
Minutes 23–30: read back and assign
Read back the important facts. Name the missing items and their owners. Confirm who reviews the draft and how corrections will arrive. Do not spend the final minutes introducing new pages or services without recording a scope decision.
After the interview
Send a short factual summary before turning uncertain notes into polished copy. Keep a source beside each claim and mark unknowns. Our notes-to-copy workflow shows how to make the draft traceable.
The Launch Rescue founding pilot includes one client interview of up to 30 minutes, up to five pages and one consolidated revision. The client still needs to supply and confirm its business information.
