Website content handoff checklist: what to check before returning to the build
Published · By Noor Intelligence
A useful content handoff lets the designer see what is ready to use and what still needs a decision. Package the approved copy, facts, assets and review record together, with a short note explaining any limitations.
Confirm the final page map
Check that every agreed page has a clear status. Do not hide an incomplete page inside a folder labelled “final”. If a page was removed or added during the project, record the agreed change. Link each copy section to its intended page rather than relying on filenames alone.
Separate publishable copy from working notes
Keep internal questions out of the text the designer is expected to paste into the site. Put unresolved items in a separate register with their owner and next action. A draft with placeholders can still be useful, provided nobody mistakes it for approved content.
Follow the source-first drafting workflow if you need to trace an uncertain statement back to the interview notes.
Attach the exact review record
Record the version, approver, decision and date for each section. If the client approved the draft before a later factual change, request confirmation of that change. The approval guide provides a lightweight structure.
Check assets independently
Include usable files or agreed links, the intended page and permission status. Do not imply that delivering an image clears it for publication. Pending items should be visible in the asset inventory, alongside any agreed alternative such as omitting the image.
Use a short delivery note
Here is the content pack for [project], version [version]. It includes [pages], the facts register, asset inventory and review record. Items still awaiting confirmation: [list or none]. Please confirm receipt. Website upload, testing and publication remain with [studio].
This keeps delivery distinct from publishing. The studio should still check layout, links, forms and how the copy appears on the actual site.
Close the project without mixing in another problem
If payment for your work is overdue, address it through a separate factual conversation. Good Chaser offers invoice reminder wording for you to review and send. It does not replace the agreed payment terms or guarantee recovery.
For a freelancer considering how content support fits into a broader service offer, Income Intelligence OS is a separate research and learning product for exploring and testing income opportunities; it does not promise earnings.
Launch Rescue’s £149 pilot includes the copy, registers and review record described here, for up to five pages and one revision after scope review.
